“Bits + Bytes” has been opening its doors for a test run since September 16th, and now the official starting signal for regular operations was given at a celebration. Under the motto “Have a bite at Bits”, students, employees and guests will be welcomed from Monday to Friday between 9.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. with a variety of culinary delicacies in Building 1 at Mönkhofer Weg 239. The new lounge has a total of 200 seats. In summer, the green inner courtyard invites you to linger.
“It is thanks to the initiative of the TH Lübeck that these great rooms were created,” said Susann Schrader, managing director of the SH student union, in her opening speech. “The aim was to create a place with a high quality of stay where students can enjoy an affordable breakfast and lunch, meet friends and study in a comfortable atmosphere. This has been achieved wonderfully.”
The president of the TH Lübeck, Dr. Muriel Helbig, to: “Even a university in the digital age needs a place with comfortable chairs and good coffee. The new cafeteria offers space for stimulating exchanges and fits perfectly into our strategy of creating new places for gathering on campus.”
Yvonne Plaul, Chancellor of the TH Lübeck, emphasized in her welcoming speech: “We have used considerable university resources to create this beautiful place. The university chose and helped decide on the color scheme of the facility as well as the name – it turned out beautifully and makes you want to spend time here. The inner courtyard in particular has awakened from its slumber and has become a real gem and will be a magnet in the warmer months.”
In addition to cold drinks and coffee specialties, the “Bits + Bytes” offering also includes warm snacks such as pizzas, baked potatoes or Börek sticks, sandwiches, salads, desserts, sweet and savory pastries, fresh waffles, ice cream and confectionery. Further delicacies such as focaccia, tarte flambée, wraps and smoothies are planned in the medium term.
Tip: A special opening offer is a fresh waffle with Nutella for just 2 euros until October 18th. The first customers can also secure one of the limited “Bits + Bytes” bonus cards: There is a stamp for every coffee drink; the twelfth hot drink is on the house.
Another bonus: thanks to the initiative of the Equal Opportunities Office of the TH Lübeck, there is a play area for children in the Bits+Bytes cafeteria. The Kidsbox, which is part of it, will be inaugurated on October 17th from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In addition to the “Bits + Bytes”, the SH student union offers three other culinary points of contact at the Lübeck university location: the Lübeck cafeteria and cafeteria at Mönkhofer Weg 241 and the cafeteria at the music college at Große Petersgrube 17-19.
