The annual flu epidemic has started again. The number of people who go to the doctor with flu -like complaints is increasing rapidly. There is a good chance that you don’t feel like sitting on the couch. But can you prevent you from getting sick? And if so, how? We explain it to you.
The number of people who went to the doctor with flu -like complaints last week was 58 per 100,000 people. According to the RIVM, that number is rapidly rising. That is why there is talk of a flu epidemic.
Flu viruses are in drops of snot, mucus and saliva. Someone with the flu spreads that by breathing, coughing and sneezing. You can get sick if you inhale those drops. And now that more and more people are carrying the flu virus with them, it is of course more likely that you too will soon have a flu.

Good resistance
If you have good resistance, according to RIVM, your body can better protect itself against pathogens. If you have been sick once, your body will make antibodies and build up your resistance. The chance that you get sick is then smaller. But even with a good shade you can get infected.
Do you want your resistance quickly one boost Give, for example, with vitamin pills? According to the Nutrition Center, that makes no sense. The only way to support your resistance is to eat healthy and varied daily, to sleep enough and exercise regularly. Furthermore, there is unfortunately no panacea that can ensure that you do not get sick.
Not infect others
If you have the flu, you are even contagious a day before you have complaints. According to RIVM, this takes up to seven days after the start of the complaints.
The solution to prevent you from getting sick is therefore mainly among the people who already have the flu. Here too, the advice of the RIVM will probably prevent you, because we have heard them all too often during the Coronapandemie:
- Stay at home when you’re sick
- Cough and sneezing in your ellenboog
- Was your hands often
- And if you still have to get in touch with others, for example because you are an informal caregiver, wear a mouthpiece
