Mariëlle Tweebeeke is much praised as a presenter of Nieuwsuur, but the viewing figures of her news section have been a bit disappointing lately. “It has seen better days.”

Nieuwsuur is the most prominent program of NPO 2. As a daily recurring title at half past nine, it is very important to the public broadcaster that the news section serves many viewers. Lately, however, the scores of Mariëlle Tweebeeke and her colleagues have been a bit disappointing, ratings expert Tina Nijkamp has noticed.

News hour is disappointing

According to Tina, the scores of Nieuwsuur are under pressure. For example, only 393 thousand people (8 percent market share) watched the broadcast on NPO 2 yesterday, good for the very last place in the daily viewing figure top 25.

Tina is concerned: “The Nieuwsuur program has seen better days: only 393 thousand viewers and only 4.5 percent in the 20 to 54 years. Only in place 25 in the top 25. It strikes me that the program never exceeds 600 thousand viewers and lingers around 400/500 thousand viewers. Unfortunately.”

RTL News in the lead

Hart van Nederland, the news program of SBS 6, has also been disappointing for some time. “It does not benefit from the good influx of Today Inside and again scores disappointingly, with 481 thousand viewers only in 23rd place and a 10.9 percent market share in 20 to 54 years.”

The Achuurjournaal traditionally attracts the highest number of viewers of all news programs – 1.9 million (37 percent) yesterday – but in the commercial target group RTL’s Half Eight News is the big winner. That scored 1.3 million viewers (29 percent) and a whopping 40 percent market share in the commercial target group.

Radar takes gold

The big winner on prime time yesterday was Radar with 1.6 million viewers (27 percent), followed by Spoorloos. 1.2 million people (25 percent) watched it.

SBS 6 takes silver with Chateau Meiland (969 thousand and 17 percent) and Today Inside (892 thousand and 19 percent) and RTL 4 bronze with 824 thousand viewers (15 percent) for Expeditie Robinson.
