In 2020, Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual coercion. A judgment that was considered the victory of the #Metoo movement. But it didn’t remain.

This conviction was canceled in April 2024 by the Supreme Court of the State of New York, since procedural errors are said to have been made in the original process. Women were allowed to testify at the time, even though they were not part of the indictment. According to the court, the procedure was therefore supposedly unfair to the former film mogul.

However, this remained in custody because he was sentenced to 16 years in prison in Los Angeles in 2022 for another rape. And now the case is rolled up again.

Three women should testify in the process

The re -admission procedure will start from Tuesday, April 15. The two main witnesses – an actress and a production assistant – should say again. In addition, a third case has now been included in the application, in which Weinstein is said to have forced a woman for oral sex in 2006.

Weinstein continues to claim that he was innocent and that the sexual contacts were mutually acceptable. Nevertheless, there was no statement against statement in this case, at least according to the former prosecutor Annemarie McAvoy. According to the “Tagesschau”, she said in this regard: “It is his statement against that of three women. The public prosecutor without a doubt helps the public prosecutor.”

Health problems in prison

In September 2024, the now 73-year-old had to put up with emergency operation. In addition, leukemia was diagnosed with Hollywood producer. Because of “alarming blood values”, he was also treated in a hospital in December. McAvoy then explained that the judgment could therefore be milder. “He looks frail and sick. That could subconsciously influence the jury. They could feel pity for him.”

Harvey Weinstein, together with his brother Bob Weinstein founder of the film production and rental company Miramax, was once one of the most powerful managers in the US film industry. From 2017, numerous women will accuse of rape and sexual assault against him-a trigger of the #Metoo movement.
