Harvard chairman still resigns after criticism of weak approach against anti-Semitism | Abroad

At six months and two days, Gay’s presidency is the shortest ever in the history of the prestigious American university “It is with a heavy heart but with a deep love for Harvard that I write to you to announce that I am resigning from my post of chairman will leave,” she writes in her letter.

According to Gay, doubts had been cast on her commitments to fight against hatred and to respect academic rigor. She also said it was frightening “to be the object of personal attacks and threats fueled by racism,” she said.

“Harvard President Claudine Gay will resign Tuesday afternoon (local time), ending the shortest presidency in the university’s history,” the Harvard Crimson had previously reported.

In December, the university board decided to continue to support its chairman. According to critics in the US Congress, Gay had given an overly cautious, legal answer to the question of whether calling for genocide against Jews would conflict with the university’s policy. She had not done that properly, the board acknowledged, but she has already apologized for that.

Gay was also accused of plagiarizing scientific work in the past.
