Harrie Lavreysen has realized the high expectations and became European Champion on the Sprint on Saturday evening on the track for the fourth time in his career. In the Belgian Heusden-Zolder, the driver from Luyksgestel defeated the Israelian Mikhail Jakovlev in two heats in the final.

Jakovlev seemed to be a difficult challenge for the ruler in this section in advance. He had set the fastest time in qualifying. But Lavreysen also knew that the Israelian is better in setting a fast time than driving a race against another.

That turned out in the first heat, in which he immediately made minced meat from Jakovlev. With an average of more than 72 kilometers per hour, he barely let his opponent come close.

In the second heat, which followed quite quickly on the first heat with a 20 -minute break, Lavreysen had to implement the same plan.

Lavreysen let the Israelian take a hole at the beginning, but the multiple champion hit a big hole again at the finish. For example, Lavreysen sovereign took his first European Gold of this week. Earlier he managed to win silver with the team sprinters, but without his regular partners Roy van de Berg and Jeffrey Hoogland.

On Sunday, Lavreysen also drives the keirin tournament.
