Harm Edens has completely stepped on his toes. He is annoyed by the criticism that Albert Verlinde has leveled at him and spoke to his husband Onno Hoes about it yesterday. “How are you holding up?!”

Dit Was Het Nieuws is celebrating an anniversary and that is why Harm Edens and his colleagues give interviews everywhere. In one of them, the presenter said that he looks back on his years at RTL with mixed feelings. “That was an environment where we didn’t belong. That smell of the program in front of you was still there and that was quite difficult.”

Criticism from Albert

Albert Verlinde finds these disgusting and ungrateful statements, because RTL saved the program when the NPO did not want to continue with it. “The smell of the program? Who has lined their pockets this year as a voice-over for the Hanslers, not exactly a program without a smell?”

Well, who was the voice-over of the Monique Hansler soap on SBS 6? “That’s the same Harm Edens! Then I think: well, my friend, good boy, take it easy for a moment,” says Albert. “Just celebrate it and don’t blame the people who made five of those thirty years possible.”

Damn it

Harm and his colleagues were in Pauw & De Wit yesterday, where Jeroen Pauw started the segment with this criticism from Albert. Peter Pannekoek afterwards: “Well, I don’t often agree with Albert Verlinde, but: damn it! Hahaha.”

A response full of self-mockery, but the irritated Harm does not go along with it: “This is a bit like: how do you create a fuss, eh? And also a bit of bad journalism, because: then just call, like: ‘What do you mean by that smell?’ It doesn’t say ‘bad smell’ or ‘nasty smell’, it’s just a smell.”

Finished talking

Harm states that he didn’t mean anything negative by it. “Every broadcaster has its own scent and the scent of Dit Was Het Nieuws basically fits the public broadcaster slightly better than RTL.”

When Peter breaks in, Harm angrily calls him to order: “Hey, have I finished talking? No, I mean: I have made beautiful series for RTL for years, no bad word about RTL, but this is something that takes you out of context.”

Moronic TV

Peter stands up for Harm, but also for RTL. “You always have to read Harm Edens’ tone a little and I was a writer or editorial member when it was at RTL and it fits perfectly.”

He continues: “Listen, we have also had crazy programs for us at the NPO. I remember that at one point we had props made of chocolate sitting in front of us.”

Onno at the table

Harm admits that that wasn’t high quality either. “Yes, that was a bit of the RTL feeling.”

Then to Onno Hoes, Albert’s husband who also happens to be sitting at the table: “How do you put up with that man? This is making a fuss about nothing.”

Onno: “I will deliver the message tonight.”

Jeroen Pauw concludes: “This was Show News for tonight!”
