FC Volendam has scored a point on a visit to Vitesse. It was 1-1 in Arnhem by goals from Robert Mühren and Bartosz Białek. Wim Jonk’s team fought for it’s worth in the second half and Filip Stankovic excelled.
A long ball from Melle Meulensteen behind the defense immediately created danger. Goalkeeper Filip Stankovic was alert and intervened in time, before Bartosz Białek could lash out. Volendam then got stronger and got a double chance. First it was Gaetano Oristanio with a header from a corner and in the rebound Xavier Mbuyamba hit the post hard. It was Robert Mühren who broke the spell after twenty minutes. His first bet was turned by Kjell Scherpen, but in the second chance he scored: 1-0.
In the counterpunch, Vitesse seemed to equalize immediately, but Stankovic turned out to be a bummer once again. He was a few minutes later, when Maximilian Wittek was completely free and shot past. The game went back and forth with small chances for both teams. On the stroke of half-time, Sondre Tronstad took it out of the blue. Stankovic barely tapped the ball on the crossbar.

Immediately after the break, what Vitesse failed to do in the final phase of the first half happened. The Arnhem team equalized via Bialek on a pass from Kacper Kozlowski: 1-1. Wim Jonk then tried to force something and exchanged Bilal Ould-Chikh and Daryl van Mieghem. Their replacements were Ibrahim El Kadiri and Henk Veerman. Oristanio forced Scherpen to make a save fifteen minutes before the end, that was Volendam’s first danger after the break.
The team mainly had to stop after Vitesse’s equalizer. The home team became dangerous again via a sneaky free kick by Nikolai Baden Frederiksen. Stankovic once again kept his team going. In the final phase, the score did not change, as a result of which Volendam took a hard-fought point at Vitesse.
The New Orange now has five points from seven games and is fifteenth in the Eredivisie.
