Hans Klok tackles René Froger: ‘Nice man, but uncollegial’

Hey, Hans Klok is tired of Bridget Maasland. He is now switching to René Froger, because there is also a lot to criticize about that. “That is actually just a very uncollegiate man.”

Hans Klok has buried the hatchet with Bridget Maasland, but the magician continues to riot. In fact, a whole scandal book is on the way. “Well, it’s not a scandal book,” he says. “Things that I experienced with Gerard Joling 25 years ago, for example, simply appear in it. But that’s not hot news or a huge scandal.”

Scandal book

In fact, it will mainly be an ‘inspiring’ book, Hans tells de Weekend. “Instead of opening the cesspool about others. The real book is never written. I keep things I know about others with me, I don’t want to sell my book over someone else’s back. But it’s not a very sweet book either.”

Eh, wasn’t Hans supposed to expose all kinds of celebrities? Will it be a little juicy? Yes, a little bit, he admits. “I really do share a sneer here and there.”

Sneak at Froger

To whom then? “I have been friends with René Froger for 30 years. And I’ve invited him to every show, but he’s never come to watch. Then I think: you don’t care what someone else does. That doesn’t mean I don’t think he’s a nice man, but I just say that in my book.”

Hans and René were once part of the same management. “His heyday was my early days, when I was still a duo with Sittah. It was a sort of tie-in. If you booked Froger, you had to book us in. I always went to his shows. Even if you don’t like what I do, you’re still going out of a kind of collegiality?”
