At BVB, Hans-Joachim Watzke wants to withdraw from the operational business. The DFL looks different.

Hans-Joachim Watzke would again like to run for the office of spokesman for the League Presidium at DFL. The 65-year-old confirmed this to the “kicker”. Accordingly, Watzke offered to run again at the closed conference of German Football League (DFL) in the election in September, in which both the Presidium and the Supervisory Board are re -elected. The conference took place this week and should make strategic decisions for the future of the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga.

Watzke is currently both the first spokesman for the league presidium and DFL supervisory board. However, according to the “Kicker” report, he only wants to continue the offices if he feels the backing of all 36 clubs from the two leagues, which it currently looks like.

In addition to his post at DFL, Watzke is also the first Vice President of the German Football Association (DFB), member of the UEFA Executive Committee and Managing Director of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. In contrast to the other offices, Watzke would like to hand in his position at BVB in autumn. After that, he could possibly run for the club’s presidency.
