Hans H. from Schoonebeek will not appeal against his sentence of 14 years in prison and TBS with compulsory treatment for murder. He stabbed his ex-wife Tonnie to death on the street in Hardenberg on October 29, 2024, after he had been waiting for her. She had just left the daycare where she worked.
On that day, exactly a year ago, H. drove into the woman, smashed a window of her car and stabbed her with a kitchen knife. He also stabbed himself. After Tonnie got out of the car and fell to the ground, H. stabbed her again and also stabbed himself again. He then drove away, only to return a short time later. A local resident stopped him by smashing the windshield of his car with a broomstick.
Many people witnessed the violence. The victim succumbed to her injuries on the way to hospital. The court blames H. heavily for the fact that the “horrible murder” took place in the parking lot at the daycare center. That happened shortly before 5 p.m., “the pick-up time for the children”.
According to the court, H. acted deliberately. On the day of the murder, he rented a car, took a lifehammer and two knives, bought an untraceable phone and waited 37 minutes at the place where Tonnie went every day. “The suspect continued and executed his decision to kill her without hesitation,” the court said in the judgment.
A long history preceded the outbreaks of violence, as is often the case with femicide. According to the court, the family had suffered for years from H.’s drug use, his paranoid delusions and his suspiciousness. According to behavioral experts, the man was in a paranoid psychotic state at the time of the murder and has reduced accountability. The court adopted that conclusion.
