Hannover 96 and Leo Weinkauf are moving towards a future together. The 29-year-old goalkeeper’s contract, which originally expired at the end of June, has been extended, as the second division club announced. The Oldenburg native is now bound until 2028. Weinkauf has been part of the goalkeeper team since 2018, only interrupted by a loan to MSV Duisburg. The substitute has been used four times for the professionals so far.
“We are pleased that Leo is staying and will continue to be part of Hannover 96 in the future. He has been at the club for many years and knows the environment and the processes. He will therefore continue to be an important part of the team in the coming seasons. Leo is a model professional who you can rely on at all times and who always puts mutual success first. That’s how the discussions went: very trusting and always in the spirit of a good, common solution,” said sports director Ralf Becker about the longest-serving professional of the club.
Weinkauf added: “It’s no secret that I feel very comfortable at 96 and in Hannover. I’ve been part of the club for a few years now, which is why it was always clear to me that we would sit down after the season and talk about a future together. It’s nice that that’s now the case. I really enjoy being here and would like to continue to actively contribute to ensuring that we are successful as a team.”
