Hannover 96 gets Toni Stahl as a substitute keeper: Comes from Energie Cottbus

Keeper comes from Energie Cottbus

Hannover 96 is pushing ahead with the squad planning for the coming season and presented the eighth external signing on Friday evening, three of them within the last 24 hours. Goalkeeper Toni Stahl comes to Maschsee on a free transfer from Energie Cottbus and has a contract until June 30, 2024.

The 22-year-old comes from the youth of RB Leipzig and found his way to Lausitz via FC Fulham 2020. Last season he was a regular keeper at Cottbus and kept 13 clean sheets in 34 regional league games. “In Toni Stahl we have gained a young, talented goalkeeper. He should grow and mature alongside the more experienced goalkeepers. He has a clear head and will do his part every day to keep the intensity and quality of goalkeeper training high. In addition, he will certainly get match practice in the U23s,” said 96 sports director Marcus Mann.

Stahl is now the fourth keeper in the Lower Saxony squad alongside Ron-Robert Zieler (33), Martin Hansen (32) and Leo Weinkauf (25), who has returned on loan. “During the discussions, the desired concept was explained to me very precisely and convincingly. In addition, I was shown a role that I can take on, so that the decision for 96 was not difficult for me. For me personally, moving to Hanover is the next logical step. Now it’s about arriving in the city and at the club as quickly as possible,” said the goalkeeper.
