Handball players Lions take point, Bevo on shot | 1Limburg

The Limburg handball clubs in the BENE league have had a good evening. Lions took a hard-fought run at Aalsmeer, 28-28. Bevo had little trouble at Atomix in Belgium and won with large numbers: 24-42.

Kembit Lions had a hard time against Aalsmeer, which had to miss its captain and international Samir Benghanem due to suspensions. Lions was also not at full strength yet due to injuries from, for example, Jasper Adams and the consequences of the virus.

Difficult first half
The Sittards team was not involved in the beginning and the reigning national champion went out to 8-3. From that moment on, Lions started a catching up race. The team of coach Christoph Jauernik reduced the difference to one: 11-10.

At halftime, Aalsmeer had increased the margin again and Kembit Lions faced a 17-13 deficit.

Exciting final phase
As the second half progressed, the Lions fought back. Via Joris Baart it was 18-18 equal. The teams were evenly matched. Then again Aalsmeer led, then again Lions. At 26-23 in favor of the home team, the strong playing Thomas Dekker scored several goals: 26-26. It was he who scored 28-28 with about twenty seconds to play, securing one point for his club.

Big win Bevo
Six minutes had already been played in Haacht in Belgium before the home team could score against. Herpertz Bevo’s handball players were already leading 4-0. The rest position of 8-22 says enough. The match was played.

After the break, Bevo continued frivolously and Joris Gillé’s 40th point (22-40) was received with cheers by the Panningse team and staff. Sybren Styweg brought the 24-42 final score on the scoreboard moments later.

Standings BENE-league
For Bevo, the result no longer mattered, although it is a good thing now that the team scores easily with a view to the follow-up in the national competition.

Lions keep their sights on the Final Four at the end of March. Kembit-Lions remains third with one point ahead of the number four, Aalsmeer. For the Final weekend it is important to finish second or third in order to avoid list leader Bocholt.
