The handball players of Aalsmeer are appealing against the heavy suspensions of Tim Bottinga and Samir Benghanem. “We think standards and values are important at the club, but we think the penalties are unfair,” said Aalsmeer chairman Mike van der Laarse.
Tim Bottinga was ahead of 12 matches suspended and Samir Benghanem for six races after a fight in the match against Visé from Belgium. With the Belgian team, Yves Vancosen was suspended for nine games and his teammate Nicolas Plessers for three. “We think it’s special that Vancosen gets less match suspension than Bottinga. Vancosen was the instigator of the fight”, says Van der Laarse.

The stake for the North Hollanders is that Samir Benghamen is acquitted and that Tim Bottinga gets a reduced sentence. During the appeal, players are not allowed to play in the BENE-League.
Next Tuesday, the canceled game between Aalsmeer and Visé will be made up. The match will be played on a neutral ground in Panningen.
