After nine years, HC Leipzig has returned to the top floor of German women’s handball. In the decisive game against Mainz, the Töpfer-Sieben won the last necessary point for promotion.

The handball players from HC Leipzig are first class again. Nine years after bankruptcy and the associated forced relegation to the 3rd league, the six-time German champion and seven-time DHB Cup winner returned to the Bundesliga with a 37:24 home win in the last two-league game against Mainz 05.
Leipzig is pulling away
In the final duel on Saturday evening, both teams met at eye level at the beginning, with the guests even briefly leading twice (4:3/5:4). After that, the HCL became stronger and more accurate. Thanks to a 4-0 run, Leipzig pulled away to 21:14 at the break at 10:8 (18th) and 15:11 (24th).

Even after the change, the HCL didn’t let up and extended its lead against overwhelmed Mainz to ten goals for the first time in the 38th minute (25:15), which meant that Leipzig set the course for victory early on and continued to be in the mood to score despite the high lead. The best HCL thrower was Pauline Uhlmann, who shone with seven hits.
