In the summer of 2026, national handball player Johannes Golla switched to MT Melsungen within the HBL from SG Flensburg-Handewitt. For a long time it was speculated that the circuit runner could already carry out his transfer. But that was apparently never an issue for the DHB captain.
In December, the MT Melsungen and SG Flensburg-Handewitt officially made Johannes Golla’s change to the 2026/27 season. The HBL top club is said to have been very interested in bringing the circuit runner to Hessen this summer. However, the payment of a transfer fee would have been due just below the million mark.
For the defense chief of the national handball team, it was apparently not a real topic anyway. “No, that was never a consideration,” he explained in an interview with “SHZ” and explained: “We feel extremely comfortable here. There was no reason to want to end a little faster here.”
Handball: Golla sees “huge potential” in Flensburg
Instead, the 27-year-old and his family “are already afraid of the day we will go. Our children only know Flensburg as a home,” said the DHB captain: “What a move really means, you probably only understand when it comes.
Golla switched from Melsungen to the north Germans in summer 2018. With the SG, the circular runner became German champion in his first year. This was followed by the winning of the DHB Super Cup 2019 and the European League 2024 and the successful title defense in the past season.
In the new season, Golla wants to be successful again with the Flensburgers. “We can lay the foundation stone that an era is created again where coaches and many players have long been in the club,” said the captain: “There are many pieces of the puzzle to bring together. But if that works, we already have a huge potential here.”
