The Eastern Europeans are of good quality, especially in the backcourt with the offensively and defensively strong Đurđina Malović, Milena Raičević and Đurđina Jauković. The German team initially had serious problems in the opening match against the Poles, who were considered to be the weakest in group D. Co-captain Alina Grijseels helped turn things around with eight goals and gave Markus Gaugisch’s team a successful start. Against Montenegro, the DHB selection has to improve and play more consistently to have a chance.

Both teams started the tournament successfully. The Montenegrins won 30:23 against Spain, Germany was able to record a 25:23 against Poland thanks to an increase in performance in the final phase. This makes it clear that the winner of today’s game will advance to the main round early.
