Handball EM: Holland’s top thrower has Corona

Severe setback for the Netherlands at the European Handball Championship: Top thrower Kay Smits has tested positive for the corona virus and is canceled for the remaining main round games.

In addition to the 24-year-old backcourt player from Bundesliga leaders SC Magdeburg, who leads the European Championship goalscorers list with 45 goals, two other players have been infected, according to the association.

A total of nine players are now out. Head coach Erlingur Richardsson and two other members of the functional team are also in quarantine. The Netherlands is currently in fourth place in Group I with 2:4 points.
