Handball EM: DHB stars get psychological help

The German Handball Federation (DHB) offered its national players psychological help due to the exceptional situation at the European Championships in Slovakia.

“Everyone can make the choice for themselves to have a conversation with a psychologist,” affirmed DHB sports director Axel Kromer after the 23:29 start of the main round against defending champion Spain on Thursday.

The handball players are currently largely isolating themselves due to eleven corona cases at the European Championship.

The players of national coach Alfred Gislason only leave their single rooms in the hotel in Bratislava for games and training sessions. Kromer described the situation for the team as “not nice” and “oppressive”. So far, however, no actor has taken up the offer.

Due to subsequent nominations, there are now 28 German handball players in the Slovakian capital. “We are the greatest handball team of all time in a championship, we can win the trophy – but we don’t have to be proud of it,” said Kromer.

Handball EM: Julius Kühn can hope to return

The official also reported that the DHB received a negative PCR test result from Julius Kühn on Thursday.

If the 2016 European champion, who was the first player in the German camp to test positive, has a negative result from a further analysis, he could return to the squad for the second main round game on Friday (8.30 p.m. / ZDF) against Norway.

Before that, Kromer confirmed, a medical check would be carried out. Only after an assessment by an internist and cardiologist will the player be released to return. “We will not influence the doctors in any way,” emphasized Kromer.
