In a game that was balanced for a long time, the Thuringians finally had to admit defeat with 29:33 (17:20). Coach Herbert Müller’s women acted on equal terms, especially at the beginning of the first half.

After the recent convincing performances The THC ladies had everything set up for the spectacular game of the women’s handball Bundesliga between SG BBM Bietigheim, last season’s champions, and the runner-up from Thuringia.

Both started off strong, especially on offense, and were hungry for goals, so that after the first 15 minutes 18 goals had already been scored and the THC was in the front. The first 20 minutes belonged primarily to Annika Lott. The backcourt player often cleverly anticipated the ball in defense and was the linchpin of the THC game with eight goals.

At the end of the first round, the Bietigheimers showed why they are the reigning champions. Szikora managed to parry three inaccurately thrown balls at the back, while the BBM offense was able to convert the chances into a three-goal lead. At 17:20 we went into the dressing rooms.

“Believe in yourself and be courageous”

After a good start from the guests, the Thuringians found their way back to their old strength, driven by the spectators in the Salza Hall. With substitute Gullberg they came closer to equalizing, which they achieved after an emotional speech from Coach Müller in the timeout. His words: “Believe in yourself and be courageous” were heard and the women of the THC showed themselves to be combative and equalized at 23:23. Afterwards they kept up, but had to repeatedly oppose the cold-snout Xenia Smits, who with her ten She was named player of the game thanks to her goals.

The last ten minutes were tough again: THC threw everything forward and, thanks in part to Nicole Roth’s brilliant performance, managed to make it 27:29. The direct goal almost came in the 57th minute, but it was disallowed due to an offensive foul. The guests then took advantage of their strong defense and made everything clear to make the final score 29:33.

Meanwhile, the quarter-finals of the DHB Cup were drawn during the half-time break. The THC women will meet HSG Bensheim/Auerbach there.
