HSG Wetzlar achieved a surprise win against THW Kiel. Given the results of the competition, the victory is even more important.
HSG Wetzlar celebrated an important home win in the handball Bundesliga. The Central Hesse team defeated record champions THW Kiel 33:25 (16:11).
The HSG had an outstanding run in the first half: they turned an early 2:3 deficit into a 10:3 lead. Keeper Andreas Palicka stood out, defusing one THW throw after the other. The five-goal lead at halftime was quite comfortable.
Relegation battle is coming to a head
Especially since the HSG remained energetic even after the break and unnerved the weakened Kiel team. Anadin Suljaković, who replaced the injured Palicka in goal during the game, also put in a strong performance. A convincing success was finally celebrated in front of a sold-out hall.
The Wetzlar team managed it again by winning to a non-relegation zone to jump. They had already achieved this with the win against Bergischer HC last weekend. However, Minden had temporarily overtaken them again with a surprise win in Lemgo on Friday. The BHC, which is also in the bottom of the table, also scored twice on Saturday.
