The Foxes Berlin impressively won the penultimate season game against Gummersbach and took another step towards the championship title.

The handball players of the Füchse Berlin are only a victory or point from the first championship title in their club history. Best thrower was once again World handball player Mathias Gidsel With eleven goals.

Already a tie is enough

On the last day of the match, the foxes even have a draw at the Rhein-Neckar Löwen due to the clearly better goal difference to hold the master bowl in their hands for the first time. Magdeburg has to go to the relegation -threatened SG BBM Bietigheim. Due to the victory against Gummersbach, the foxes are 56 plus points, Magdeburg has 55 points in the account. The foxes also have a 55 hits better goal difference – and have been unbeaten for 18 games.

It also became emotionally against Gummersbach because Paul Drux was officially adopted. The long-time fox and international had to end his career early in October 2024 after a serious knee injury. Drux played for 13 years for the Berliners, but also for four years for his home club Gummersbach.

Slow start, then came the frenzy

Print or drux – everything no matter, the foxes had to show mental stability to add after the Magdeburg victory and to claim the top of the table. But the game started unfavorably with two messed up attacks. It was only after two and a half minutes that the first goal for the Berliners, who, as against TVB Stuttgart, came into play rather phlegmatically. So it was only 4: 4 after ten minutes.

But with every further minute the foxes-offensive gained ease. Gidsel, Andersson and Co. gradually got rolling and after 13 minutes with the 8: 6 ensured the first two-goal lead. Due to many uncleanliness, the capitals made it unnecessarily exciting, but Gummersbach really didn’t have to oppose.

After 20 minutes it was 13:10 for the more aggressive home side, but then experienced a moment of shock. Lukas Herburger bent over extremely unhappily and had to leave the field limping. But as quickly as his ankle swelled, his teammates shook so quickly. They played their fans in a real intoxication, gummersbach gave no chance. It was 22:15 after the first half, which was like a preliminary decision.

Foxes rolled irresistible

The foxes tied the strong pre -minute to the strong pre -minute, ran straight away again. Gummersbach acted as motivated, but repeatedly failed due to Berlin’s goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev, who now found much better into play. After 40 minutes, the foxes, also thanks to the usual strong switching moments, continued to run safely with 30:22.

It was felt that the air at the Gummersbachers, for whom the season was not much about, was out. They lacked the last tension, acted defensively carelessly and aggressively collected almost countless ball losses. After 45 minutes, the foxes led 8-0 when it came to speed – a dramatic value for Gummersbach. At the latest when Milos Vujovic threw a seven meter next to the goal in the 48th minute, it was clear that not much should work here.

Youth researches in the final phase

The comfortable score of 39:29 after 50 minutes allowed the foxes to give the youngest guard in the squad in the final minutes. One team could no longer, the other still wanted. And so the foxes said goodbye to their fans in the last home game with an impressive and light-footed 45:35 victory-a new season best at thrown goals.

Next Sunday (3 p.m.) the capitals will be guest at the Rhein-Neckar Löwen in Mannheim. Win or at least score there, get the first championship in the club’s history.

“I would not have thought to win with ten goals difference against Gummersbach. The boys are simply incredible,” said Fuchse coach Jaron Siewert, who was awarded a HBL coach of the year before the game, euphorized at the broadcasting streaming provider Dyn. “Winning the championship with the home club is a unique opportunity.”
