The handball players from Borussia Dortmund have won at Sport-Union Neckarsulm, coach André Fuhr decided not to travel.

On Saturday (September 17th, 2022) on the 2nd matchday of the Handball Bundesliga, BVB clearly won 38:25 at Sport-Union Neckarsulm.

The game continued to be overshadowed by the unrest in the club after the two internationals Mia Zschocke and Amelie Berger had given immediate notice of termination last week.

The Dortmund women surprisingly played the game in Neckarsulm without their coach André Fuhr. It remained unclear whether this was possibly related to the terminations of the two players.

BVB coach did not drive in Neckarsulm – “under no circumstances exempted”

“André Fuhr and we as the board and department head decided at short notice that he would not go to Neckarsulm due to the special situation. It’s about the coach’s care and it was also the coach’s wish,” said department head Andreas Heiermann to the “Ruhr Nachrichten “. Heiermann also emphasized that Fuhr was “under no circumstances exempted”.

BVB does not want to accept the resignations from Zschocke and Berger. At the beginning of the week there was already a crisis meeting in this regard, further talks are to follow. The parties involved are silent about the reasons for the terminations. Representatives of the contact point for violence and abuse in top-class sport also took part in the meeting last Monday.

Bietigheim stays up

After the win, Dortmund remain in the top group, together with three other teams that also won the first two games of the season. Bietigheim is at the top of the table thanks to a high 44:23 win against Waiblingen.

Thüringer HC, who beat Buxtehude 28:19, and HSG Bensheim/Auerbach, who narrowly won 26:24 at Halle-Neustadt, are still without a loss.
