Handball Bundesliga: BHC fights for a point against Leipzig

Bergische HC secured a point in a hard-fought game against SC DHfK Leipzig on Thursday evening.

On the 14th matchday of the Handball-Bundesliga, Bergische HC and SC DHfK Leipzig split with a 31:31 (19:15) draw after a thrilling final phase.

BHC pulls away before the break

The BHC started the game with a nice pass to Frederik Ladefoged in the circle. In the opening phase, both teams exchanged blows openly. Neither team was able to extend the lead to more than one goal.

After a quarter of an hour, Christopher Rudek replaced the unfortunate Peter Johannesson in the hosts’ goal. Rudek immediately distinguished himself with a save and then played a key role in the BHC’s four-to-nil run. However, when the score was 16:12, the Lions conceded three goals in a row. A wonderful pass from Aaron Seesing to Yannick Fraatz initiated the strong final offensive in the first half. We went into the locker room with a 19:15 lead.

Back and forth in passage two

The guests from Leipzig came out of halftime much better and reduced the score to 20:19 within two minutes. After goals from Linus Arnesson and Noah Beyer as well as two saves in a row from Rudeck, the BHC extended its lead back to four goals (24:20). But Leipzig didn’t give up either and equalized to 24:24 after a series.

The spectators in Wuppertal were also treated to a hard-fought HBL game in the second half with strong offensive scenes and some outstanding saves. A thrilling final phase developed in which Bergische HC was closer to victory in the end, especially thanks to Christopher Rudeck’s saves. In the end, Rudeck made a strong 14 saves.

However, with the score at 31:30, the hosts dropped the decision several times. “I think we left three or four match points lying around in the last few minutes. We normally make 80 or 90 percent of them,” BHC coach Jamal Naji summarized after the game on “Dyn”. 15 seconds before the end of the game, Leipzig’s Viggó Kristjánsson made it 31:31.
