Hammer! Lucien Favre cancels Gladbach

Lucien Favre was last considered the biggest favorite for the coaching position at Borussia Mönchengladbach, the return seemed to be in the dry cloth. But the ex-coach, who last coached BVB in the Bundesliga, will not move to the Lower Rhine again. This was explained by manager Roland Virkus.

Lucien Favre will not take over Borussia Mönchengladbach from next season. “Lucien Favre has Borussia in his heart but doesn’t want to work in Germany anymore. You can be sure that we’ve done everything, but I don’t think Lucien Favre will be the coach at Borussia for the next two years,” Virkus said the general meeting of the association on Monday evening.

Favre had been Gladbach’s preferred candidate for the replacement of the coaching position. Between 2011 and 2015 he had already worked successfully on the Lower Rhine and, above all, promoted the development of young players.

Now the foals, who separated from Adi Hütter after the disappointing season, have to examine the trainer market a little longer. “It is essential for the future of the club that we make the right decision when it comes to coaching,” said sporting director Roland Virkus at the club’s general meeting on Monday evening. The club have “created a clear requirement profile” and are “currently in talks with several candidates”.

Gladbach’s decision must now sit

Sports director Virkus also asked for patience when looking for a new coach. “You can be sure that we want to do this as soon as possible. But since we haven’t made good decisions in terms of the coach in the last three years, it’s immensely important that we make a good decision,” said Virkus at the Borussia general meeting.

Virkus expressly did not want his words to be understood as criticism of his predecessor Max Eberl. Borussia has had little success in recent years with Marco Rose, who has migrated to Dortmund, and the hapless Adi Hütter.
