The goalkeeper question at FC Bayern is already casting its shadow. What happens next after Manuel Neuer? TV expert Didi Hamann sees black for one of the possible successors.
It has not yet been finally clarified whether Manuel Neuer will still be between the posts at FC Bayern next year. Likewise, who the successor will be. The new contract runs until the end of the season, and another one-year contract seems possible.
Since the beginning of the year, Jonas Urbig has been established as number two, having already scored eight times for the U21 national team.
Many see the former Cologne player as the future regular goalkeeper in Munich. Not so Didi Hamann.
He said on “Sky 90” that he doesn’t think Bayern will rely on Urbig. “That would mean that they have to get someone. You have to know early on where you’re going. The later you sign the players, the more expensive it will be,” Hamann continued.
Alexander Nübel also thinks he has a chance. The keeper is currently on loan at VfB Stuttgart. However, his time there will probably end after this season. He is under contract with Bayern until 2030. The “kicker” recently reported that Nübel does have prominent advocates in the club. He should not shy away from possible competition with Urbig, it was said.
Decision made for cup
Bayern have already made an initial decision for the upcoming cup game at Union Berlin. “Manu is back in goal,” confirmed coach Vincent Kompany, “we haven’t had any discussions about a possible cup goalkeeper.”
In the first two rounds at SV Wehen Wiesbaden (3:2) and at 1. FC Köln (4:1), Urbig guarded the FC Bayern box, Neuer was missing due to a red card suspension from the previous season.
In Berlin on Wednesday, the 2014 world champion will be back in goal, although his supposed crown prince Urbig should actually get more match practice this season.
“There will come a moment when we will see how we can give Jonas minutes,” emphasized Kompany, “Manu knows that, Jonas knows that. But I don’t have a calendar where I say: this or that game. But we intend that the integration of Jonas continues to go well. And at the moment we are very happy with that.”
