Halstenberg flirting with staying at RB

Leipzig (AP) – National player Marcel Halstenberg is flirting with staying with German runner-up RB Leipzig.

The 30-year-old’s contract expires this summer. A possible move to his ex-club Borussia Dortmund, where Leipzig will play in the Bundesliga chase duel on Saturday (6:30 p.m. / Sky), had burst due to an injury.

“The coaches have already signaled to me that they would like to see me here again next year. It helps a lot when someone is counting on you like that,” said Halstenberg in an interview with the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung” and added with a laugh: “Now the ball is in the hands of the club bosses.”

After many injury setbacks, the defender feels back in the team. “As a player you want to get the feeling that you are valued, that you are being built on. I get positive signals from all sides, which of course feels good. It will be seen whether we get together or not,” he emphasized. Nevertheless, the family man worries a lot: “I’ve never had a situation like the current one, that my contract expires in three months and I don’t know where I’ll end up. That’s why I’d like to know before the summer break where and how things will continue.”

He also wants to attack again in the national team. After a conversation with his teammate Lukas Klostermann, national coach Hansi Flick said to the RB duo: “Both get fit, play regularly in your clubs and then the door will be open.”
