The Halo roll bar proved its value again during the British GP race weekend. Motorsport was close to witnessing no less than two tragedies within a couple of hours.
The protection solution introduced in 2018 was severely criticized in its first years. However, the sounds of gravel have quieted down as it has been found to have saved lives.
On Sunday, it saved two drivers from death.
Nissany’s dangerous egging
Shining in Formula 2 more for his father’s money than his driving skills Roy Nissany almost killed himself.
The Israeli driver suffered a real brain fart while driving by Dennis Hauger out of the track. Having lost his controllability, the Norwegian slid at speed towards the brakes, which the anti-hero Nissany immediately reversed.
Hauger, who took an aerial flight from the high-end sausage, crashed violently into the cockpit of Nissany’s car. Extinction would have been virtually certain if Halo hadn’t blocked the blow.

The horror of the junior class was already almost forgotten when the starting lights of the F1 race went out.
We didn’t have time to go many meters before the audience was presented with the most brutal accident of the season so far.
Guanyu Zhou The Alfa Romeo spun upside down and slid off the track at high speed. The impact was so violent that the safety bar that protects the driver in such situations broke.
It tore off for good while rolling on the sand. Without Halo, this would have been extremely dangerous, as the car digging into the ground would have exposed Zhou’s head to serious injuries.
Fortunately, the Halo shield remained in place, preventing Zhou’s head from hitting anything at any point.
