A large amount of smoke can suddenly be seen in front of the Frankfurt skyline. The fire brigade and police have to intervene. Now there are the first details about the process.
The team bus from regional league team Hallescher FC will be in on Sunday night Frankfurt am Main completely burned out. Unknown perpetrators set fire to the vehicle parked on the banks of the Main, which had previously been used by the U19 team for a friendly match at Eintracht Frankfurt. The police have started an investigation.
According to the fire department, there were no injuries in the incident. The emergency services were alerted at 2:11 a.m. and initially suspected a fire in the youth hostel on Deutschherrnufer, but then discovered the coach bus burning ablaze on site. Photos show a column of smoke over the city.
According to the emergency services, 26 firefighters were busy extinguishing the fire until 3:24 a.m. The investigators are now investigating the identity of the perpetrators and the property damage caused.
“We are deeply shocked and stunned by the attack,” said the HFC. “This attack crosses every border. It is directed not only against our club, but against the values of sport and our society as a whole.”
In its statement, the regional league team also urged prudence: “Nevertheless, it is important for us to emphasize that desires for revenge or revenge are out of place here, because something like this only leads to further escalation.”
