Haller, Süle and Co.: BVB newcomers in training for the first time

As of: 07/11/2022 6:39 p.m

Sebastien Haller and Niklas Süle took their time and patiently signed autographs at the end of the sweaty session. Already during their first training session for their new club, they felt the great expectations of their new place of work in Dortmund.

With a lot of benevolence and thunderous applause, around 1,500 BVB fans followed every action of the newcomers. The other reinforcements Nico Schlotterbeck, Karim Adeyemi and Salih Özcan were also closely surrounded.

National players are also back

With the arrival of the newcomers, intensive preparation for the new season has begun at the Revierclub. Right from their first longer sessions after medical performance tests at the weekend, they were put under a lot of pressure with a high number of cycles. “Time is running out, we don’t want to lose any time and use every day to prepare optimally. It’s good that all the boys are back,” said returning coach Edin Terzic, who, in addition to the additions, now also has national players like Jude Bellingham and Julian Brandt , Thomas Meunier, Giovanni Reyna and Raphael Guerreiro are available.

The finishing touches for the coming season, in which Borussia, who have been strengthened for a good 85 million euros so far, want to stand up to the series champions FC Bayern Munich, should take place in the training camp from July 15th to 23rd in Bad Ragaz. Terzic set the tone: “We want to show good, consistent football and inspire our fans – in every game.” The football teacher was very satisfied with the level of performance of the stars who had returned from vacation: “The lads gave it their all during the break and worked very hard. We don’t have to hand out any penalties.”

Can and Malen are missing

Potential change candidates such as Manuel Akanji, Thorgan Hazard and Guerreiro were also part of the training group and are likely to travel to Switzerland on Friday without progress in contract talks. Akanji is the most likely to say goodbye. The defender, who is contractually bound to BVB until the summer of 2023, was last associated with Inter Milan. A lucrative transfer of the Swiss national player could encourage the runner-up to make further purchases.

With Emre Can and Donyell Malen, two ailing professionals were absent from training on Monday. Terzic gave the all-clear: “We are confident that both will go to the training camp with us.” The same applies to convalescent Reyna, who was only part of the unit at the beginning. “We want to make sure that he regains confidence in his body. That’s why we don’t take any risks with him on one or the other day,” commented Terzic.
