Halina Reijn receives a lot of positive attention for her breakthrough as a director in the United States. Her film with Nicole Kidman, Babygirl, receives many positive reviews. “Scrooge? No.”
It is something to be proud of for Halina Reijn: her new film starring Nicole Kidman, Babygirl, is overloaded with positive reviews. It will undoubtedly open doors in the United States. But what about her bank balance? Has it exploded now that she has suddenly made it in America?
Scrooge
Halina states that it is quite disappointing. When asked whether she will become rich from such a film, she answers de Volkskrant: “No dude. A lot of people think I’m swimming around here like Scrooge McDuck, but 50 percent taxes are deducted and then another 20 percent goes to my agent, lawyer and accountant.”
She continues: “I earned more in the Netherlands – and life is cheaper there. We bought a box of pine nuts for Thanksgiving dinner, which was $20.”
Nothing at all
Also for the PR work in the so-called awards season Halina doesn’t get any money. “Nothing at all, what surprised me the most is that you just have a full-time job for a year, where you literally can’t do anything on the side, without pay. I should have negotiated better, I now know.”
All in all, Halina doesn’t seem to be a millionaire yet. Nicole Kidman does, by the way. It shines $250 million to be worth…
