Heuvelland also tries to be accessible outside the town hall. For example, an employee is present in the village restaurant two days a week.
“I am indeed a point of contact. Very accessible,” says senior consultant Hannelore Creus. “People feel at home and welcome here. I think that is very important.”
This is appreciated by residents. “I think it’s very good. If we are in need, we go to the municipality for information,” says a visitor.
According to Ligo, that commitment remains necessary. “We see in the figures that one in six people still has low literacy,” says Maithé Franco of Ligo. “This means that they have difficulty with daily matters such as reading, arithmetic or dealing with the digital world. We try to strengthen those people so that everyone is on board.”
A total of 31 West Flemish municipalities received the label. The full list is on the Ligo website.
