The average income in Delftwijk is low. Almost thirty percent of the inhabitants live in the lowest income group and many people are in debt restructuring. Almost a quarter of the children grow up in poverty. Children are regularly sent to school without breakfast. There is little to do for the older youth in the neighborhood.

A lot of nuisance

There is regular nuisance from hanging youngsters, but local residents also complain about drunk people on the street, drug nuisance, confused people and neighbors rumors. The number of reports of vandalism and youth nuisance is much higher in Haarlem-Noord than in the rest of the city.

The municipality decided earlier to hang surveillance cameras at the mall, in order to scare hanging youngsters. But that does not solve the underlying problems.
