We hope to get him back for the season finale and the club world championship.” It is Pep Guardiola himself, in the press conference that precedes the return of the Premier League, to give further details on Haaland’s left ankle injury, the one that complicates the City season finale, hunting for a Champions League placement in the last 9 days. And potentially also Norway’s journey to the World Cup, with the 24 -year -old at least in perhaps for the already decisive challenge with Spalletti’s Italy of June 6 in Oslo.

Pep does not clarify the gravity of the left ankle injury that Haaland suffered on Sunday in Bournemouth, nor on the fact that the center forward has already made the consultation with the specialist announced yesterday by the City. The recovery times announced by Guardiola are however a blow for the team: Haaland will certainly skip at least 6 of the last 9 premier days as well as the FA Cup semifinal with Nottingham Forest of 26 or 27 April in Wembley. At best, the Norwegian will return to the field for the last 3 days of Premier and potentially for the FA Cup final of May 17, if the City should get there. In the worst, it could only be available for the last day of the championship on May 25th. “We do not have another player with his talent and characteristics, but we will have to adapt – added Guardiola -. For many years we have played with a different style in attack, dependent on the qualities of the players available: we will have to adapt”.

From Norway this morning, before the update spread by Guardiola, he trapped a cautious optimism on the return of Haaland in time for the challenge with the Azzurri. Much will depend on when the 24 -year -old actually will return to the City: he should burn the stages and present himself on the pitch in 5 weeks, he would have all the time to find a minimum of condition and make himself available to his national team, of which he is the superstar, before the club world championship. The new very rich FIFA competition, however, is one of the objectives of the city season finale and Haaland is already presented by the world federation as one of the stars of the tournament at the start in the USA on June 14. Serling had to return towards the end of the timeline proposed by Guardiola, it would be complicated for him to accept the convocation of Norway with one or no premier game in the legs and skip the preparation with his club.
