GZUZ: Lawyer contests the amount of the fine in the appeal process

On Wednesday, rapper GZUZ once again had to answer in court. The process is dragging on and a break to catch your breath doesn’t seem to be in sight for a long time. The judge responsible, Dietrich, even expects it to be extended. In September 2020, the court issued a prison sentence of one and a half years and a fine of 510,000 euros against the rapper. This fine was set too high – now his defender Ulf Dreckmann thinks.

At the start of the trial, GZUZ was charged with assault, possession of drugs and weapons, and stealing an oxygen cylinder from an ambulance. The latter has since been dropped by exonerating witness statements.

The fine was calculated incorrectly

A fine is made up of the daily rates calculated by the court. In the case of the rapper, around 300 daily rates of 1700 euros were calculated. In short: GZUZ would have 1700 euros net to live on every day. All in all, this results in a total of 51,000 euros per month.

So how much does the rapper really earn? In order to shed light on the matter, the court brought in GZUZ’s tax advisor. For 2021, he calculated an estimated gross income of 202,000 euros. Thus, the rapper’s income would be 337 euros per day. Defense attorney Dreckmann emphasized that the court must make a distinction between pure profit and turnover. On the one hand, GZUZ would receive large advances, such as from Universal Music, but on the other hand, high costs for video shoots, management and productions would also have to be covered, according to Dreckmann.

A verdict is expected in early March.
