On August 1st, the new documentary starts on Amazon Prime Video “Light & shadow” About Gzuz – and she shows a man who wants to be remembered with more than just riot and headlines. In conversation with the Rolling Stone, Gzuz makes it clear what he is about: “I did the documentary to show that we are normal people. No monsters. And because I’m proud of my family.”

“It was hard. Also when writing. That went deep.”

But who is man behind the name? The Hamburg rapper, with a bourgeois name of Jonas, sometimes seems uncertain about where one persona ends and the other begins: “To keep Gzuz and Jonas apart, it is difficult for me.” The art figure covers the private – and yet there are moments when something shines through. For example, with the song about his mother: “He was tough. Also when writing. That went deep.”

For the exclusive Rolling-Stone interview with Gzuz:

What drives him? Gzuz is honest: “In the end I just wanted to be famous.” He knows how quickly this can be over: “I am aware that it doesn’t work anymore.” And then he says something that gets stuck: “My greatest success? My family – and that it stays that way.” There is laughter in between. For example, over the fan in Thailand, which would almost have fallen from the scooter, just to get a selfie. Gzuz grins – but also there: a shadow in the background.

The documentary, he says, is exactly: raw, loud, unadorned. And closer to it than you expect. “I’m curious to see how it gets over.”

“Gzuz – Light & Shadow” can be seen on Amazon Prime Video from August 1st.
