Gymnastics World Championships in Liverpool: Lukas Dauser gets a good feeling for the parallel bars final

Lukas Dauser was the only German gymnast to make it to the all-around final of the World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool. And as achieved what he wanted.

As 18th in the qualification, Lukas Dauser entered the all-around final and had previously set himself the goal of adding a little more: “For me, the most important thing is that I do six nice exercises, on all my six apparatus. I didn’t quite succeed in qualifying because I had problems with the horizontal bar and the pommel horse.” Dauser also wanted to use his bars exercise during the all-around as a dress rehearsal for the apparatus finals on Sunday. He has succeeded in both.

Solid performances at the beginning

Lukas Dauser started with the rings. He didn’t take any risks there, but performed his exercise cleanly with a relatively low level of difficulty and, with 12,900 points, scored a little less than in the qualification (13,133). In 20th place, Dauser went on to the jump, where, after a small hop after landing, he remained slightly below his qualifying score and scored 13,766 points.

The dress rehearsal on parallel bars

With 15,400 points in qualifying, Dauser proved that he can take part in the medal race on the parallel bars in the final on Sunday. In the all-around he had to try a little harder, wobbled once, but then continued his difficult exercise without making any mistakes and ended it with a strong dismount. Nevertheless, he remained below his qualification score with 15,166 points. “It was a good exercise on parallel bars, a good exercise for my all-around, but not my perfect exercise, so I can do a little bit better than that,” summed up Dauser afterwards.

Better than in the pre-fight, where he left the apparatus prematurely due to a mistake, he did it on high bar. In the final, he performed his exercise cleanly and without falling and scored 12,900 points. With a low difficulty, he didn’t take any risks here either.

As the penultimate station, the man from Unterhaching did gymnastics on the floor, where he clapped his hands after his exercise and happily raised his fist in the air. Just like in the qualification, he scored 13,666 points with a flawless performance and was 11th in the overall standings before the last apparatus.

After the last rotation Lukas Dauser had to go to the pommel horse. In qualifying, he scored 12,233 points. In the final he improved significantly and scored 13,200 points. With a clenched fist towards the crowd in Liverpool, the 29-year-old showed that he was satisfied with the performance. “It wasn’t about placement or any points, it was just about my performance. And I did six apparatus, I did six exercises. In the end, 11th place in the world, I think that’s good.”

11th place in the all-around

Lukas Dauser just missed the top ten in Liverpool with 81,598 points. Compared to the qualification, the Unterhachinger was able to improve by more than one point. Above all, his sovereign performance on parallel bars gives him hope for the apparatus finals on Sunday evening (November 6th).
