First she was fifth, then third, now fifth again: Jordan Chiles remains without a bronze in Paris. The American is disappointed.

More than a year after losing her bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, Jordan Chiles has made serious allegations. The US gymnast initially moved up to third place in the floor final. After a successful protest by the US team, their rating was revised upwards. A few days later, however, the IOC ruled that the objection had been submitted four seconds too late. The medal went to the Romanian Ana Barbosu, Chiles was “only” fifth again.

In the podcast “Baby, this is Keke Palmer,” Chiles reported on her experience after the decision – and spoke openly about racist hostility. “I didn’t see it that way at first until I started getting racist comments, almost literally. People were saying this and that – and some even wrote to me telling me to kill myself. It got really, really hard,” the 24-year-old said.

The hateful backlash from users on the Internet even led to her withdrawing from social media. “It was hard to even see that – as an athlete. And then you stand up there on the podium, yes, it was an all-black podium, which is very rare. Obviously that’s something that a lot of people don’t like.” Chiles added: “They didn’t want to see that. They didn’t want to see three beautiful black women on that podium. They didn’t want to see that we dominated. And that really hit me.”
