The DFB women are going into the semi-finals of the Nations League with a changed squad. Four players are returning and three new players are there.
The German women’s national team can again rely on captain Giulia Gwinn and defensive star Lena Oberdorf in the semi-finals in the Nations League against France. The two FC Bayern players are in national coach Christian Wück’s 23-man squad for the games at the end of October. Gwinn had been out injured since the European Championships in the summer. Oberdorf suffered a torn cruciate ligament last year and was not part of the DFB squad at the tournament in Switzerland.
Bibiane Schulze Solano (Athletic Bilbao) is also nominated for the first time since tearing her cruciate ligament. With Nicole Anyomi from Eintracht Frankfurt, a fourth player who has not been there for a while made it into the squad.
Wück also appointed three completely new faces to the squad for the games against the European Championship quarter-final opponents. Goalkeeper Laura Dick from TSG Hoffenheim as well as Camilla Küver from VfL Wolfsburg and Shekiera Martinez from West Ham United will be there for the first time.
Meanwhile, Ann-Katrin Berger cannot take part in the semi-finals. The goalkeeper, who became the European Championship hero in the penalty shootout against France in July, is suffering from a knee injury. Giovanna Hoffmann from RB Leipzig is also not there. The striker recently tore her cruciate ligament and will be out for a long time.
In addition, Sophia Kleinherne from Eintracht Frankfurt and Rebecca Knaak from Manchester City are not part of the DFB squad against France. Kleinherne is currently still in training after a thigh injury. Knaak recently struggled with a meniscus injury and has not been able to gain any match practice since then.
The first duel between Germany and France will take place on October 24th in Düsseldorf. The DFB announced that 33,000 tickets have already been sold for the game. The second leg in Caen is scheduled for October 28th.
