Between 2020 and 2021, Hiddink was active as national coach/technical director of Curaçao. He did not play for some time in 2021 because he became infected with the corona virus, after which Patrick Kluivert became interim national coach.
In mutual consultation, Hiddink then decided not to complete his current contract, all the more because the qualification for the World Cup in Qatar had not been achieved.
