Former VV Alkmaar coach Corina Dekker will be the only woman to start the new UEFA Pro training in May, the professional football coach course. She is in class with former professionals such as Robin van Persie, Michel Kreek and Hedwiges Maduro. Dekker is a guest in our talk show De Aftrap tonight with former national coach Guus Hiddink.

Only five women in the Netherlands have the coveted piece of paper that Corina Dekker hopes to get in the coming year. Among them of course Vera Pauw and Sarina Wiegman. Women who have earned their spurs in women’s football. The big question is, of course, when will a professional football club in men’s football take the step to team up with a female trainer?
“Is the football world ready for a woman as a trainer/coach yet?”
Yet that was not the reason for Dekker to sign up for the course. “For me, it’s about development. But Sarina Wiegman and Vera Pauw are high-quality trainers. It’s about: is the football world ready for it? Which club takes the risk?”

If Dekker has passed all parts of the course, Hiddink wants to award her diploma in the spring of 2024. “I am chairman of the Professional Football Coaches. I am going to award your diploma. I just claim that position.”
