In the world of series, the Argentine public is accustomed to seeing presences that are repeated in different products; It is usual to discover interpreters who coincide in two or three stories throughout the same year, who can range between drama, comedy, thriller or biographical portrait.
When an actor appears on the map, the impact is much greater. In 2022, the premiere of “IOSI, the repentant spy” brought to the surface Gustavo Bassani In the leading role, an authentic revelation, someone who seemed to camouflage himself with his character. It gave the feeling that some producer had achieved a secret agent willing to infiltrate the fictional universe.
At present, Bassani has earned a place in its own right, he is a consolidated actor who now stars in Netflix “The curses”together with figures such as Leo Sbaraglia and Alejandra Flechner. Ideal excuse for dialogue with news.
Rubio and clear eyes, when observing it while a lemon flavored soda is served with the decent concentration of a footballer who will kick a decisive penalty in the final of a World Cup, it is inevitable to find a certain resemblance to international colleagues such as Glen Powell, Ryan Gosling or Jeremy Renner. A comfortable meeting room serves as a propitious scope for the talk.
News: Was he living in Mexico?
Gustavo Bassani: Only for a while last year because I went to film a series of Netflix that was filmed there, in South Africa, in northern Italy and in Paris. It is called “Nobody saw us leave” and is directed by Lucía Puenzo, Nicolás Puenzo and Samuel Kishi, will be very pretty. Last year I traveled a lot, I also rolled in Panama a movie about the Panama Papers, but I live in Buenos Aires, I love this city, I don’t know if it would lie elsewhere. I can leave a few months and return, but I need to have a base here because it seems one of the most beautiful places in the world.
News: You turn years old on January 30, how did you live as a boy? It’s full summer, everyone is on vacation and that pleases to take a party
Bassani: To be honest, I knew that my parents were never going to have money for my birthday, so I always had a complex relationship with that. Last time I wondered if I did not like to celebrate my birthday or, as I knew that for them it meant a weight, because they did not have a handle with five children, I have a rare feeling with the subject. In general I do not like to celebrate it, in recent times I started analyzing why, on that date there was no one, they were all on vacation and I always spent it with my brothers. The same today I am always lucky that someone who wants me ends up putting up a celebration to which I go as a guest.
News: Is still a couple with the dancer Johana Copes?
Bassani: With Johana we separated almost two years ago, we were ten as a couple, but we really have a super relationship. We were very good, we talked to see how we are, I was very lucky to paternal to his daughter, whom I love with all my heart and with whom I still contact. Now I am single and with a lot of work, it is difficult to have true ties when you travel so much for work.
News: “The curses”, like “iOSi”, is based on a novel. In those cases you first approach the book or are you right to the script?
Bassani: Here specifically, directors Martín Hodara and Daniel Burman, who adapted the novel, advanced me that they had taken a lot of distance from the original story by transforming it into series. For example, in Claudia Piñeiro’s novel, the girl’s character is a boy and the action takes place in Buenos Aires. Here everything happens in the North Argentino, so I did not want to read the novel at that time, I felt that as there was so much change I was going to dizzy, I decided to hug me strongly to the script and create a world from there.
News: With Daniel Burman they had previously made “iOSi” and “Transmitzvah”. Are you already understood just by looking?
Bassani: Yes and that is great, you have to be up to Dani too! He is a very fast, intelligent person, he always knows perfectly what he wants and how to tell it. When he tells you about what he needs about your character, he goes a lot to the internal, in detail of what happens intimately. Martín Hodara also directed me in “iOSi”, in addition to co -writing and directing “the curses”, we already have a friendship relationship, we eat roasted. I let me take, they trust me and I also respect them a lot.
News: A while ago he commented on the paternity relationship he has with his former partner’s daughter, did he feel identified with what happens to Román, his character in the series?
Bassani: She is bigger, she already has 16, but she resonated the same. Martín Hodara commented on a particular scene and I said: “This is a bit what happens to the girl I paired” and he confessed that I had written it knowing what was happening. I see similar things, the life experience served me a lot, everything would have been a bit more difficult if I had not had the opportunity to paternal, which is a word that I love. You understand a little more what it is to travel existence as Dad, although the girl has her father with whom she maintains a divine relationship, I could accompany her in the development of her life, she is re cute. I don’t know if Román’s character has that, but a little is found on the road, there he discovers the relationships between mothers, fathers and children, not only their own but also those who marked the other characters. For example, Fernando’s, the role of Leo Sbaraglia, with his mother played by Alejandra Flechner, is quite toxic …
News: Scorse before filming asks the actors to watch certain films to get into the weather. When I saw her relationship with the girl, she thought of “paper moon” by Peter Bogdanovich or “a perfect world” by Clint Eastwood with Kevin Costner …
Bassani: I saw that specifically before going to film! He is beautiful, Kevin Costner is a total genius and there is at his best. I also saw “the perfect murderer” again, who has nothing in common, then I realized that director Luc Besson has some intense problems there (laughs) I also saw several Thrillers because the thriller has its own rhythm, in that sense it helps me a lot to observe how in those films the information is hidden, in what way they dosing it until they release it, all that was very useful.
News: Sbaraglia was already trained with Menem’s accent. How was working with him?
Bassani: I was always a admirer of Leo and when they told me: “You are going to star in Sbaraglia,” I thought: “UF, Netflix, Sbaraglia, Burman, Hodara, is playing in First!” What a huge opportunity. I came from “iOSi”, which was a great leap in my career, but the subject is then staying, perhaps after something like this comes a smaller job, not starring in Netflix with Sbaraglyia, Flechner, Monica Antonópulos, César Bordón and Osmar Núñez, names with whom one always wanted to work. I had the pleasure of sharing a scene with Osmar, we looked at Leo and said: “Fa, what a piece of actor, what a luxury to be here!” Sbaraglia is spectacular, he loves what he does, he is passionate, you call him at any time and is always arranged.
News: Is giving everything important in this trade?
Bassani: Of course, and in that Leo is a genius. I always say that being an actor is very easy, you have to get early, work as a team and know the lyrics, point. Leo does that, he is a co -covered with everyone, he is with his mate by inviting people, always super open to experience. Well, that’s why Leonardo Sbaraglia and has the career he has.
News: In “iOSi”, his boss was Natalia Oreiro, here he has to do a favor to Monna Antonópulos. Can we say that it is quite lucky?
Bassani: (Laughs) Both are divine companions! In particular, I am a friend of Monna and Marco Caponi, with whom we work in “iOSi”, we have shared daily, family life. I moved very close to his house, always happened with the bike, we are very in touch. Marco is also a friend of Leo, so when we filmed in Uruguay he took advantage, he came too and we were all doing ours, going out to eat and laughing. It was a lot of fun, spectacular how well we spent, so it is pleased to work.
