The handball Bundesliga clubs VfL Gummersbach and Frisch Auf Göppingen are swapping their playmakers at the turn of the year.

As both clubs announced on Tuesday, Ludvig Hallbäck is moving to the Oberbergische half a year earlier than initially planned, and in return, the German junior world champion Ole Pregel will be joining the Swabians on January 1st.

“Since it has recently become apparent that Ludvig Hallbäck will definitely move to Gummersbach for the new season and a player swap has now proven to be possible, it was crucial for us that we can then integrate our future center back player early,” said Göppingen team manager and coach Ben Matschke: “We are also accommodating both players’ wishes for an early change.”

VfL is “a good and exciting team. I hope that we will develop well together. I’m looking forward to that and I’m very excited,” said the Swede Hallbäck, commenting on his move from eleventh to sixth in the HBL. The 23-year-old Pregel will appear for VfL for the last time on Saturday against HSV Hamburg.
