Came around 3:30 p.m a report of a stabbing inside at the emergency services.
A police spokesperson said a guard was briefly held hostage by the prisoner and was injured in the neck and face by a sharp shard of a plate. A negotiator and an arrest team were deployed.
Approachable to the hospital
The custodian was transferred to medical care around 4:40 p.m., the police reported. She was responsive and was taken to hospital.
“The suspect has been taken to a cell and is suspected of a new offense,” the police spokesperson said.
A large number of police cars responded to the report, and an air ambulance and a mobile medical team were also deployed.
Previous hostage situation in Zuyder Bos
It is not the first time that a hostage situation has taken place in prison. In April 2024, a prisoner in Zuyder Bos took two other detainees hostage in a common room. There were no injuries.
The prison in Heerhugowaard consists of two buildings, Zuyder Bos and Amerswiel. In total there is room for 340 male prisoners.
