Guadalajara Stadium, which will open its doors to football fans in 4 of the matches to be played in Mexico in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, attracts attention with its interesting architecture. The stadium, whose official name is Akron Stadium and used by Chivas, one of the Mexican League teams, resembles a work of art when viewed from the outside, in addition to its architecture in harmony with nature, environmentally friendly structure and technological equipment.
ECOLOGICALLY DESIGNED
Standing out as the most striking design of sports architecture in Latin America, Guadalajara Stadium resembles a volcano covered with clouds. The roof of the stadium, located adjacent to La Primavera Forest, serves the purpose of savings and sustainability, as well as its aesthetic appearance. Filtering natural light with the materials used, the roof allows rainwater to be collected and used in the maintenance of the field ground.
The environmentally friendly and nature-friendly design of the stadium, whose exterior is covered with natural grass, plays an important role in balancing the internal temperature of the stadium and reducing the need for air conditioning.
The space between the grassy slopes and the roof provides natural air circulation, reducing the need for artificial cooling and reinforcing the environmentally friendly title of Guadalajara Stadium.
RENEWED FOR THE WORLD CUP
Various arrangements were made in the stadium, which opened in 2010, before the World Cup. The internet infrastructure was strengthened at Guadalajara Stadium, where the installation of the first FIFA Quality Pro certified hybrid grass field in Mexico was completed.
High-resolution LED lighting installations have been completed for light shows in the stadium, which will serve football fans in the World Cup with a capacity of 48 thousand spectators.
COMPLETED IN 3 YEARS
The construction of Guadalajara Stadium, which is the main stage for many important events in Mexican football, took approximately 3 years.
In the stadium, which hosted the Guadalajara Pan American Games in 2011 and the 2011 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, Mexican team Chivas won the league and cup championship in 2017, and won the Confederation of North and Central American and Caribbean Football (CONCACAF) Champions Cup in 2018.
