Grunge pioneer Mark Lanegan dies at home aged 57 | Music

MusicAmerican singer, songwriter, musician and author Mark Lanegan passed away Tuesday morning at his home in Killarney, Ireland. That reports his official Twitter account. No further information is available at this time.

Lanegan became known in the late 1980s as the lead singer of The Screaming Trees, one of the pioneers of grunge music. He went solo during his time with the band. After the final split in 2000, he continued to make solo records, but also collaborated with Queens of the Stone Age, among others. He can be heard on their album ‘Rated R’ and their breakthrough album ‘Songs for the Deaf’.

His solo albums often stayed under the radar, but with ‘Bubblegum’ (2004) he hit the bull’s eye. Some well-known names from the world of alternative music could be heard on that album: PJ Harvey, Nick Homme and Nick Olivieri of Queens of the Stone Age and Dean Ween. As The Gutter Twins, he later recorded a record with Greg Dulli of Afghan Whigs. He released three albums with the Scottish Isobel Campbell, known for Belle and Sebastian.

He also found musical partners in our country. He recorded songs with Creature with the Atom Brain, the band of Millionaire musician Aldo Struyf. The latter also toured with Lanegan. The Belgian bassist Fred Lyenn Jacques (Dans Dans) also toured with the musician for a while.
