Thanks to strong shooting performances, Franziska Preuß and Selina Grotian secured a podium place at the Biathlon World Cup in Antholz. But a French woman took first place.

Two error-free shooting gave the two German biathletes Franziska Preuß and Selina Grotian a podium place at the World Cup race in Antholz. In the 7.5 kilometer sprint, overall leader Preuß secured a strong third place (+16.7 seconds). Grotian did even better and finished second after a fantastic race (+7.2).

The two DSV athletes were only trumped by Lou Jeanmonnot (21:09.5), who also made no shooting mistakes and delivered a gala performance in terms of running. The Frenchwoman, who won a race for the fifth time this season, has moved a little closer to Preuß by winning the overall World Cup.

The 30-year-old German was meanwhile satisfied with third place. “My goal was to get on the podium in Antholz,” said Preuß on ARD after the race. She has now succeeded.

Grotian, who almost took on Jeanmonnot, emphasized: “I gave it my all, I was really finished at the finish. I was almost dizzy from the effort.” She also said she was happy with the end result.

Meanwhile, the other two German starters, Sophia Schneider and Stephanie Scherer, were not able to convince. Schneider finished in 28th place with three shooting errors (+1:41.1). Scherer finished the race in 53rd place (+2:16.1).

Vanessa Voigt and Julia Tannheimer are currently missing from the German team due to illness. Both are hoping for a quick recovery with a view to the World Cup from February 12th to 23rd in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
