After Francesco Farioli, Fabio Grosso. Ligue 1 becomes a little more Italian. In fact, there is an agreement between Lyon and the former Frosinone coach, chosen by the new American owners for the new course. The former full-back will lead the team after Sunday’s match, succeeding Laurent Blanc, who was sacked after a disappointing start to the season, with one point in four matchdays.

value

Divorce had actually been in the air for weeks. During the summer, Blanc had called for quality reinforcements from a club that was in financial difficulty and had to put up with a salary cap and a market restriction. Lyon ultimately sold players for around 130 million euros, including young winger Barcola to PSG for 50 million, and 20-year-old centre-back Lukeba to Leipzig for 30 million. There are few reinforcements for a squad that can still count on some valuable elements such as the playmaker Cherki, the midfielders Lepenant and Caqueret, the more experienced Tolisso and Lacazette, as well as the Argentine World champion Tagliafico.

ideas

However, Grosso arrives in a city he already knows, having played for two years in Lyon, starting in 2007, after the World Cup won with Italy, and also winning a championship. He speaks French and was chosen by the American owner John Textor for his playing ideas which allowed Frosinone to reach Serie A last season. The former Italian had broken up with the Lazio club and was free on the transfer market, like Rino Gattuso with whom he entered into competition for the bench of a team bottom of the table, after three defeats and only one draw, against Farioli’s Nice. Grosso arrives tomorrow with his staff and will be in the stands on Sunday for the match against Le Havre, managed by a trio of managers from the club’s sports sector. Grosso’s debut on Saturday 23 September in the away game in Brest.
