Grosso exit at Olympique Lyon after a good two months – only one win from seven games

Bottom of the table in Ligue 1

Fabio Grosso’s tenure at Olympique Lyon lasted just seven games. On Thursday, the bottom of the Ligue 1 table announced “after a thorough analysis” that it was parting ways with the 46-year-old Italian, who only scored one win and averaged just 0.71 points. Grosso, who appeared 78 times for OL as a professional, only took over from Laurent Blanc in September but failed to get the seven-time French champion back on track.

As Lyon further announced, the head of the youth department, Pierre Sage, will take over the preparation and supervision of the game in Lens on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Grosso’s exit was already apparent after the home defeat against Lille last Sunday (0-2). This was followed by a meeting with club boss John Textor on Wednesday before the 2006 world champion was fired by the American and new sports director David Friio on Thursday morning. This ended a turbulent time for Grosso in Lyon with the negative climax on October 29th when he was injured in the face as a result of stones being thrown at the Lyon bus by Marseille fans.
